Performing Arts BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3 at East Berkshire College
This Extended Diploma in Performing Arts is an exciting course, which is designed to provide students with a realistic and demanding training programme in all areas of performance.
This course gives you the skills and all-round experience to be an adaptable and multi-skilled performer as well as introducing you to a range of jobs within the performing arts industry.
Students will be guided into pathways of study which college staff feels the individual will excel and, as a consequence, be best prepared for their chosen career in the very competitive world of Performing Arts.
During each year there are often opportunities to see live performance work given by other students and also professional work in regional and national venues.
Costs of such activities vary from year to year.
Drama classes aim to cover a wide range of theatrical styles and periods covering everything from Greek theatre and Shakespeare to plays that are being written and performed now.
Technique classes will develop your skills as performers through movement work (dance, physical theatre and stage combat) and vocal work (Voice and the Actor, Musical Theatre and Audio/Radio Performance).
You will be given regular opportunities to demonstrate these skills in public performances at a professional theatre in Windsor. Most units have a written element which students will need to pass in order to gain that unit.
You will learn about the Performing Arts Business, how to make a professional CV, receive audition tips and techniques and gain work experience as a member of the Front of House Team at The Fire Station Arts Centre in Windsor.
You will meet professional performers, directors and technicians, learn how to market yourself within the industry, and take part in projects such as touring to local schools and writing, directing and producing your own work.
Four GCSEs at grade C or above, or Merit or above in the Performing Arts BTEC Diploma Level 2 (formerly BTEC First Diploma).
- Practical projects, supported by written work throughout the course.
- Students will study 9 units a year, gaining pass, merit or distinction for each one.
Costs for visits and clothing will be given during enrolment and induction.
Students who have completed the Performing Arts course at Level 3 have been highly successful in securing places at university (Bath, Roehampton, Middlesex, Winchester, York) and in specialist dram colleges (Rose Bruford School of Acting, East 15).
Many of our former students now have successful careers in theatre, film and television whilst others have gained employment as performers as Butlins Red Coats and at Disneyland Paris as well as non-performance based careers in teaching, event management, running their own drama and dance academies and as theatre technicians.
Some practical classes will ask that specialist clothing is worn - dance and physical theatre for example.
All students will be required to wear 'blacks' for some performances and assessments. Details of such clothing will be given during enrolment and induction.
