Economics AS Level and A Level at Mayflower High School
What will I study at AS Level?
At AS Level, students will study the basic underlying principles that underpin Economic theory such as supply and demand, market clearing and market failure. There will also be study of wider economic policies such as fiscal and monetary policy. There are two examinations in the June of Year 12, each lasting 1 ½ hours on the two main areas of Economics, namely Macroeconomics and Microeconomics.
What will I study at A Level?
At A Level, rigour is increased to develop the key economic principles first examined at AS Level. This increased understanding is then placed into a synoptic or real world scenario so that the learners can see the day to day relevance of Economics. The A Level qualification has three 2-hour examinations in Macroeconomics, Microeconomics and Economic Themes.
CAPS of 40 plus a C grade in GCSE English Language. GCSE Business Studies or GCSE Economics is not a requirement for entry.
