Sport (Golf) BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma at Guildford College

Course description

The course aims to provide relevant education and training leading to employment within the golf industry.

The course reflects a vocational approach to a diversified golf industry and aims to give a learning experience combining theoretical course study with practical skills in a competitive environment.

Facilities at Merrist Wood include an 18-hole, par 72 privately-owned championship golf-course on site, available to students studying golf, a five hectare golf practice area, driving range with fixed yardage markers to 250 yards, large putting green, one all-weather artificial putting green, an indoor swing lab, sports hall, weights room and specialist golf library with over 500 books and journals on golf.

The golf education programme at Merrist Wood offers the opportunity to combine an interest in golf and sport in general, and gain an academic qualification at the same time.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grades A*-C, including Maths and English, or a Level 2 Diploma at Merit or above, or equivalent.

You will also need experience of playing golf and will need to pass the reference and interview process. A current handicap of 14 or below is highly recommended.

Assessment

Written presentations, portfolios, verbal presentations, demonstrations and practicals. There will be clear College submission deadlines which will need to be met. Failure to meet these may result in failure to complete the course.

Future opportunities

You could progress onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma.

Possible jobs as a golf caddy, course manager, club secretary, golf course designer, golf equipment maufacturer, assistant or head professional, health and fitness trainer, player manager, sports nutritionist or sports psychologist.

Further information

You must be a member of a golf club and have an official CONGU handicap of 14 or below before starting the course and you must also show potential to reduce this to single figures during the course. There will be costs to contribute towards away golf and uniform.
