Group Six IB Visual Art HL Level 3 at Dartford Grammar School
Course content outline
Visual Arts offers students a course of study that aims to extend practical, perceptual and analytical skills, by creating opportunities for studio practice, investigation and development of ideas and written work. Local resources such as London galleries and museums will be used for investigations and image-making. In addition, students will be required to investigate art in its broadest sense, encompassing European and non- European contexts. The structure of the course is the same for both Standard and Higher levels.
Students will normally be expected to achieve at least 3 A grades and 4 B grades at GCSE. They will be required to have A grades in the subjects they are going to study at Higher Level (A* grade in Mathematics). In the case of a subject not studied at GCSE, a grade A will be required in a related subject.
At the end of the course students produce an electronic Candidate Record Booklet with evidence of the Investigation Books and Studio Work, and an exhibition of their work. Investigation Books are assessed internally and constitute 40% of the overall mark, while the Studio Work/Exhibition is assessed by the external moderator and constitutes 60% of the overall marks.
