Course description

If you are looking to become a cutting-edge music producer, composer or performer, then this course is for you. Based at MediaCityUK, you will study at our newest centre, FutureSkills, which has professional recording, editing and rehearsal facilities. This course also provides you with access to some of the leading products and artists within the industry. We want to develop the students skills and experiences to get the gig. The gig might be the job, the session, the commission, the deal or the tour. We aim to ensure that you gain the experience and develop the skills to be able to go where your work takes you.

Course content

The course offers a programme of study that focuses all areas of the music industry. You can choose to specialise in either performance, technology or creative music. The course is designed for students who want an all round understanding to help make a more informed choice when studying higher education.

Year 1 Units:

  • Sequencing and production
  • Rehearsal skills
  • Live music recording
  • Working in the Music Industry

Year 2 Units:

  • Live music performance
  • Live sound engineering
  • Studio sound recording
  • Auditioning for music

You will have the opportunity to perform a number of public events outside of college to gain stagecraft experience required for professional auditions. The teachers have vast professional experience withint the music industry and they are able to share this with the students through practical projects

Entry requirements

Advanced Level - 5 Cs / 4ss at GCSE plus audition

Intermediate Level - 4 Ds/3s at GCSE plus audition

Foundation Level - E/Fs 1-2s at GCSE

 

 

Assessment

The assessment methods include auditions, performances, recordings, compositions, essays, presentations and portfolios of promotional materials. The course aims to develop students' practical skill and understanding of contemporary music performance and knowledge of the music industry. This will be supported by reflective evaluation of your own work.
 

Financial information

This course is free to those aged 16 - 18 years old and an EU citizen.

Future opportunities

Students can progress to study a Leve 4 Creative Practitioners qualification, or go on to study at university or gain employment within the events and music industry. Past students have gone on to work at the BBC and study at various institutions including LIPA ,University of Salford, University of Huddersfield, BIMM and Backstage Academy
