BTEC Level 3 Music Technology:Certificate (AS) and Subsidiary Diploma (A2) at South Dartmoor Community College

Course description

This music course focuses on Music Technology, The Music Industry and Recording Techniques. The main skill of Music Production is supported by a range of skills including listening, research, live sound techniques, sound creation and manipulation. These form the bases of study in this highly recognised Music Qualification.

Certificate (AS)

Core Unit: Production Techniques

Two Further Optional Units from the following choices:

  • 1. Acoustics for Musicians
  • 2. Delivering a Music Product
  • 3. Live Sound Techniques
  • 4. Music Technology in Performance

Subsidiary Diploma (A2)

Core Unit: Sound Creation and Manipulation

Two Further Optional Units from the following choices:

  • 1. Special Subject investigation
  • 2. Backline Technical Management
  • 3. Listening Skills for Music Technologists
  • 4. The Sound and Music Industry

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs A to C to include a C or equivalency at Music GCSE. Also the ability to play an instrument or sing.

Assessment

Styles of assessment: recordings, performances, events, observations and portfolio evidence.

This course provides a great preparation for a career in the music industry and is designed to enable students to gain useful paid employment in performance, recording, music management, and teaching.

Two purpose-built music blocks which include four specialist teaching rooms, recording studio, practise suite, computer studio software, grand piano, music class equipment and more.
