Creative Media Production BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at Chipping Sodbury School

Course description

Students will work to create high quality Film and Television products such as music videos, animation and video installation work. Students will develop a wide range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attitudes essential for a professional career. Students will learn how to take a project from preproduction through to post-production using cameras, lighting and editing as well as animation techniques and software to create their product. The Btec is designed specifically for those who wish to learn how to make and create film and television products and is a hands-on way of learning about the industry.

Entry requirements

For all Level 3 courses, students are expected to have achieved a minimum of 5 GGSEs at grade C or equivalent. For Vocational Courses, it should include English or Maths.


The course is 100% coursework with no externally set exam

The course is assessed as

  • Pass- showing you have just shown your ability and working is within acceptable limits
  • Merit- showing you have safely worked within the expected limits
  • Distinction- showing you are working above the expected limits
  • Distinction*- showing you are going over and above expected limits

Future opportunities

This course can lead onto careers in film and television, game design, video installation, art and design, 3D graphics, advertising, animation, corporate promotions, digital media, social networking, music video production, broadcasting, journalism and news reporting, documentary making, photography and any visual media format.
