Animation at The Hewett School

Course description

This course is unique to The Hewett Sixth Form and is a new course that gives you the special opportunity to focus entirely on animation. Animation is a growing area in both games design and web design. It is also a popular art form in it own right. This course will take you through all you need to know to produce your own animations. You will study every different type of animation from 2D and Stop Motion to 3D computer animation.

The course is designed to introduce the entire creative process involved in animating. You will develop the skills required to bring your imaginative ideas to life. You will explore concepts through drawing and sculpture, learning technical processes and realising ideas as short animated films. You will develop an understanding of the industry and work to design briefs and solve given problems.

You will have access to all the equipment needed to produce your animations, from specialist video cameras to high-speed computers with industry standard software. In relation to external links, the course aims to prepare you for employment in this sector – such as television, film, video games, advertising and web design.

This course can be studied as a Certificate (equivalent of 1 AS) in one year or as a Subsidiary Diploma (equivalent to 1 A-Level) over two years.
