Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care (Level 3) at Palmer's College
The BTEC Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care is a specialist work-related programme of study that covers the key knowledge and practical skills in the Health and Social Care sector. You will learn how to carry out some of the practical skills such as measuring clients vital signs (bloodpressure, pulse, temperature and respiration), first aid skills (with a first aid certificate), caring for a virtual baby, caring for disabled clients, heart dissection etc.
The course includes the following units:
• Developing effective communication in health and social care
• Equality, diversity and rights in health and social care
• Health, safety and security in health and social care
• Development through the life stages
• Anatomy and physiology for health and social care
• Personal and professional development in health and social care
The course includes a mandatory work placement for one day per week during the first year.
Minimum of four Cs at GCSE or a full Level 2 Diploma in a related subject.
Combination of assignments and one formal practical exam.
Travel to work placement.
All the BTEC Health and Social Care courses provide an excellent base for students looking to progress onto a higher education course, direct entry into full time employment or further learning opportunities within employment. Our students have progressed
on to university courses such as Child/Adult Nursing, Social Work and Occupational Therapy and into employment as care worker, nursery assistant, teaching assistant and youth work.
