GCSE: Dance at Long Field School

Course description

GCSE Dance offers you the chance to develop skills in dance performance,choreography and analysis. You will learn a set study and take part in class performances both of which will help to develop your performance skills. This course seeks to provide knowledge, skill and understanding of dance and is an excellent introduction to the subject for those wishing to study dance at advanced level. Choreography classes will give you the chance to explore your own ideas and provide you with one to one support which will enable you to create your own work. Dance analysis sessions will also help to broaden your understanding of the subjects. Basics in safe practice and health and safety for dancers are also covered. Assessment is based on coursework and performances and comprises three components. Written paper (20%):The paper is split into two sections which focuses on the set work you will study and requires you to show understanding of different professional dance works Practical Examination (20%): You will be required to perform a set study which will be of approximately one minutes duration. Coursework (20%): Performance and Choreography: You will be required to perform in one duo/group dance which will last about 2½ to 3 minutes. You will also choreograph a dance, which may be a solo or group performance (40%)
