Business Studies:Level 3 Extended Diploma at Suffolk New College

Course description

By studying this programme you will be exposed to both Public and Private Sector businesses where you will have the opportunity to learn about a range of local, national and international organisations which focuses on a range of business departmental functions including; Finance, Human Resources, Marketing, Retail and more. This study programme will have a number of guest speakers and company visits included where you will hear from some high profile businessmen and women from a variety of sectors/organisations. You can also put the skills you learn to the test by taking part in Global Entrepreneurship Week/Enrichment activities, where you will learn and trade in a live environment.

All students who have not achieved a grade C or grade 4, or above in GCSE English or Maths or both will need to study an English or/and Maths qualification alongside their chosen main qualification. ;

Course content

This course aims to provide students with a qualification in order to enter a specialist area of employment or to progress onto Higher Education. You will study a range of units including exploring the business environment, developing a marketing campaign, managing an event and many more. A wide range of internal assessment methods are used such as; written assignments, presentations, interviews and assessments using interactive technologies. There will also be 4 externally assessed modules. You will have a personal tutor who will support you in setting personal and academic targets to work towards your career aims and goals. Students benefit from support in developing personal, social and employability skills including work experience with local employers.

Entry requirements

At least 4 GCSEs at grade C or grade 4 or above, including English Language and Maths or a BTEC level 2 in Business at merit level or related vocational area with Functional Skills level 2 in Maths and English.

Financial information

Tuition Costs 

No tuition fees are payable for students aged 16 – 18 on 31 August 2017. For all students aged 19+ please visit our website www.suffolk.ac.uk. Details regarding fee remission and Advanced Learning Loans can also be found at the above website.  

Additional Costs (may be subject to review)

£50 for trips each year. Students are also encouraged to purchase a textbooks to support their studies. Approximate cost is between £20 - £25.

Future opportunities

You could progress onto an Apprenticeship. Some students have completed the Extended Diploma to gain access to Higher Education and relevant degree programmes. Students who complete this course can seek part/full time employment opportunities within a business environment including Human Resources, Finance, Marketing, Sales & Advertising, Retail or departmental functions.
