Media Studies A Level at Raynes Park High School

Course description

The media permeates all aspects of modern life and Media Studies offers the opportunity to study the media in depth and how it influences not only its audience but also society, politics and the world of finance.

Course content

AS Unit: Foundation Portfolio in Media—coursework (G321) - Creation of the opening sequence of a thriller film.


AS Unit: Key Media Concepts (TV Drama) - examination (G322) - case studies from the film industry and technical analysis of British Television Drama.


A2 Unit: Advanced Portfolio in Media—Coursework – A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video.


A2 Unit: Critical Perspectives in Media—Examination- case study into the regulation of the film and advertising industry  and critique of their own practical productions.

Entry requirements

Entry Criteria: 5A*-C including Maths and English with a least a C Grade in Media or related subject


Assessment takes place weekly in the form of essays or practical assessment.

Coursework is completed by the end of January and the exam takes place in June

Future opportunities

Progression Pathways: Media Studies, Media related fields including Journalism and other Humanities.  Employment in the Media industry.
