Children's Play, Learning and Development (Early Years Educator) Level 3 BTEC National Diploma at Highbury College
Course description
If you have a desire to work with young children, enjoy their company, can be very patient, work well in a team and take initiative, then this course is for you.
You will also need to be prepared to work very hard as the knowledge base required is equivalent to three A levels and professional status.
Course content
This is the second year of an interesting and exciting course that will provide practical and theoretical training in the care, education and development of young children that provides access to a range of fascinating careers.
This course will deliver a sound foundation of knowledge within the early year’s sector.
Over the course of this two year programme you will complete a range of assignments, a research project and a minimum of 750 hours in placement.
Placement will be in at least three different settings and age ranges and will form the basis of a Practical Evidence Portfolio.
Entry requirements
You will need a minimum of four GCSE’s, grade A-C, two of which must be English Language and Mathematics.
A satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required.
Assessment
You will learn through a range of work placements, practical assessments, simulations, working in College, assignments, research task, and evidence based portfolio.
Two of the assignments in the second year are marked externally.
Future opportunities
You can progress to a related higher education programme such as Primary teaching.
You could also go on to work in a nursery, pre-school, infant or primary school, or in a family home.
