Business Applied at King James's School

Course description

The Applied Business course aims to provide students with a broad introduction to the business sector. It will encourage students to develop skills, knowledge and understanding in realistic business contexts, such as discovering the problems and opportunities faced by local businesses and/or organising an enterprise activity.

There are four courses available:

AS single award (3 units)
AS double award (6 units)
A level single award (6 units)
A level double award (12 units)

Course Content

AS business consists of three modules for the single award or six for the double award.

The AS single award course consists of the following units:

Unit 1 - Investigating Business (Portfolio Unit)
Unit 2 - People in Business (Portfolio Unit)
Unit 3 - Financial Planning and Monitoring (Examined Unit)
Double award students will also study the following units:

Unit 4 - Meeting Customer Needs (Examined unit)
Unit 5 - Business Information and Communication Systems (Examined unit)
Unit 7 - Career Planning (Portfolio Unit)

These are extended and further developed at A2.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at Grade C or above (or equivalent qualification)

At least grade C in GCSE Mathematics and English Language would be an advantage, but it is not necessary to have studied Business Studies at GCSE level.
