Beauty Therapy Advanced Apprenticeship at Weston College

Course description

Apprenticeships are all about learning on the job – getting paid while you learn from your employer in a salon and coming into college for a day a week for practical training, theory, demonstrations and to work in our commercial salon.

You will do the Level 3 in Beauty. You will also be able to develop other skills such as ear piercing, nail-art, tanning and tooth gems and have the opportunity to enter competitions such as WorldSkills.

This is a vocational qualification and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a beauty massage therapist including, mandatory units covering the following: body massage, Indian head massage, and massage with pre-blended oils, stone therapy, monitoring procedures in the salon and contributing to the planning of a promotional event.

Throughout this qualification you will develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology, health and safety, and client care. You will also develop a range of technical skills in massage, using a variety of different techniques. You will also develop interpersonal skills that will assist you to communicate effectively with clients.

Course content

The topics you will study include:

  • Head and body massage treatments
  • Improving body condition using electro-therapy
  • Improving face and skin condition using electro-therapy
  • Intimate waxing
  • Advanced make-up techniques
  • Electrolysis.

Skills in Maths and English will be embedded into your academic/ vocational learning. If you do not have a grade C in Maths and/or English you will attend a discrete GCSE or Functional Skills class as part of your weekly timetable.

Entry requirements

In order to do an advanced apprenticeship you must have an employer to support you. We have a number of vacancies available every week and are able to help you find an employer. In some cases you will be required to have completed the intermediate apprenticeship before you move onto the advanced level. You will also need a good level of english, math and IT.

Assessment

Your personal assessor will review your progress throughout the study programme. We will also assess you at our commercial college salon and you will do online tests.

Future opportunities

Progress to:

A higher level professional qualification in Beauty Therapy or a more specialist area.

Job/career opportunities:

A career such as practising beautician or therapist in a beauty clinic, nail technician or spa therapist.
