Health & Social Care BTEC Level 2 Diploma at Strode College
This one year course provides the opportunity to study subjects that relate to the field of care, for example the rights, roles and responsibilities of a carer and how to communicate effectively in health or social care settings. You will need to have a keen interest in care and want to study and develop the relevant skills for this vocational area.
Areas of study will include: Communication in Health and Social Care; Individual Rights and Needs; Healthy Living, Promoting Health and Well Being. Functional Skills Maths and English or GCSE Maths and English Language will be studied for those with a D grade in these subjects.
You will undertake at least one block week placement and may go on to do one day a week throughout the duration of the course in a relevant health, care or educational setting.
5 GCSE grades E or above or equivalent, such as NVQ Level 1 plus a GCSE grade E or above. In terms of securing the best possible progression to a Level 3 course, a minimum of grade D is essential in GCSE English Language. The importance of this will be discussed with you at interview.
You will need a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. This report is a government requirement for all people working with children, vulnerable adults and young people including on work experience. You will need to fill in a form and provide original identification to confirm who you are and where you live. Assistance will be given with this, once you are in college.
Assignments will be internally and externally assessed and will include two online controlled assessments. Pearson Exam Board.

This course could lead to studying at a higher level such as A Level Health and Social Care, Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care, CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education or an NVQ Level 3 course. Alternatively, you could go directly into employment in a care setting.
