Art and Design (Combined Arts) A Level at South Downs College

Course description

This course offers you a unique and exciting opportunity to explore a variety of surfaces and media including drawing, print, collage, cardboard, clay, metal and textiles.

 

Course content

You will visit local and national exhibitions to view artefacts from the past and recent times, including both European and Non-European examples.  These visits will inspire your drawings and help you to develop your own ideas.  With support and guidance from subject specialists, your designs will then be transformed into print, ceramic, metal and textile outcomes.

To further develop your knowledge of different styles, desins and traditions, you will also investigate and analyse the work of contemporary and historical artists.

Entry requirements

  • 5 GCSEs at grades A* - C, including English Language Grade C or above
  • Grade C or above in an art and design related subject
  • a portfolio of GCSE Art & Design work will be required at interview.

Future opportunities

Progression on to higher education in Art and Design is normally dependent on the successful completion of a one-year Pre-Degree Foundation course, although universities will accept direct A Level applicants with strong portfolios of work.

Previous students have also progressed onto higher education courses as diverse as Psychology, Media or English and Creative Arts. 

Further employment opportunities exist within the ceramics, textiles, product design, media and graphics creative industries.
