Computing Level 3 Apprentice at Solihull College & University Centre
The aim of an apprenticeship is to prepare you for full time employment. You will have the opportunity to gain industry recognised qualification’s and work experience, which may lead to a full time job.
On an apprenticeship you will be an employee and earn a wage. You will work alongside experienced staff in your workplace to gain job-specific skills. You will attend off the job training at College on a day-release basis. Minimum salary is £3.30 however, many apprentices earn significantly more.
Level 3 is ideal for those looking to progress in their career or to learn new ICT skills. It is also appropriate for those looking to enter higher education.
The qualifications are made up of some compulsory units of essential skills plus a wide range of optional units that will be selected to meet the specific job role.
These may include:
- Software development
- Web development
- Data analysis
- Software design
- Project management
- IT User
- Cisco IT Essentials
GSCEs in English and maths at C/4 or above, or equivalent. A GCSE in IT is desirable.
You will be assessed on your practical abilities in your workplace. Workplace assessments may be observations, professional discussions, interviews or inspections of your work. You will also be required to complete assignments and projects and answer written questions. Some course units are assessed by examinations.

The level 3 Computing Apprenticeship takes around 18 months to complete, but this will depend your individual ability, prior qualifications and the employer’s training requirements.
