AS/A2 Chemistry at The Deepings School

Course description

You will study many areas of Chemistry - Physical Chemistry, Inorganic and Organic Chemistry. Most lessons are taught in the laboratories. Practical work will form an important part of the course. Lessons will involve a variety of activities where you will always be encouraged to participate through class discussion. You may be requested to carry out presentation to the rest of the class. Progress will also be assessed by end of topic tests at regular points throughout the course. Work will be marked using the grade boundaries and criteria used by the examiners.

Entry requirements

Minimum of 5 GCSEs including at least a grade B in GCSE Chemistry or grade B in GCSE Additional Science in which Chemistry component is grade B and a grade C in GCSE Mathematics

Future opportunities

Studying Chemistry is a good entry route into a variety of careers. Past Chemistry students at The Deepings School have gone on to study Chemistry, medicine, physics, pharmacology and many other subjects. Chemistry can also lead to more technical vocational qualifications. A wide variety of students study Chemistry then they combine it with complementary subjects such as Biology, Physics, Mathematics, PE, Geography, or Psychology, or choose it for contrast with subjects such as English, Art or Philosophy
