Sport BTEC First Cert at Parliament Hill School

You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. It introduces you to the employment area you have chosen and provides a good basis to go on to a more advanced work-related qualifi cation. A BTEC First Certifi cate is equivalent to two GCSEs grades A*– C Assessment % breakdown (controlled assessment and external exam) The course is made up of a choice of three specialist units. The specialist units enable you to study particular areas in more depth. The assessment approach of the BTEC Firsts in Sport allows for learners to receive feedback on their progress throughout the course as they provide evidence towards the grading criteria. Evidence for assessment may be generated through a range of diverse activities including workplace assessment, role play and oral presentation. Delivery strategies refl ect the nature of work within the sport sector, by encouraging learners to conduct research, and carry out assessment, in the workplace, or in simulated working conditions, wherever possible. Learners should be encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and achievement, Tiers on entry N/A Requirements for A level/ Laswap N/A Description of course The course is made up of a choice of three specialist units. Each of the units will be made up of a number of different tasks each of which will be assessed by your course tutor (and internal and external moderators). Preparation for Spor t- Unit 4 Within this unit you will develop and understand the fi tness and lifestyle of an individual sports performer. Be able to plan a simple fi tness training programme for an individual sports performer and explain the nutritional requirements for effective sports performance. The Body in Spor t- Unit1 This unit provides the knowledge and understanding of how the body responds before, during and after exercise. Sport Leadership Skills- unit5 Involves leading in primary schools, through the JSLA unit and through extracurricular sessions. The pupils will also plan and deliver a sports day for a local primary school. Year 10 Unit 1 Unit 4 Year 11 Unit 5 Events / trips / residential information Pupils will be expected to take part in extra curricular sessions in which they work with local primary schools. They will also plan a sports day that they will deliver to one primary school.
