Public Services Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma at Lowestoft College

Course description

This two year course is aimed at anyone who wishes to pursue a career in a uniformed public service. It is physically and mentally demanding and combines academic studies with physical fitness and outdoor activities.

Course content

The qualification contains mandatory and optional units.

Mandatory units:

  • Government, Policies and the Public Services
  • Leadership and Teamwork in the Public Services
  • Citizenship, Diversity and the Public Services
  • Understanding Discipline in the Uniformed Public Services
  • Fitness Testing and Training for Uniformed Public Services


Optional units:

  • Physical Preparation, Health and Lifestyle for Public Services
  • Understanding the Impact of War, Conflict and Terrorism on Public Services
  • Land Navigation by Map and Compass
  • Crime and its Effects on Society
  • Command and Control in the Uniformed Public Services
  • Planning and Management of Major Incidents
  • Career Planning for the Public Services
  • Exercise, Health and Lifestyle
  • Custodial Care Services
  • International Institutions and Human Rights
  • Outdoor and Adventurous Expeditions
  • Security Procedures in the Public Services
  • Employment in the Uniformed Public Services
  • Fitness Testing and Training for the Uniformed Public Services
  • Responding to Emergency Service Incidents
  • Understanding Discipline in the Uniformed Public Services

Entry requirements

Four subjects at GCSE grade C or above (including English Language) or an appropriate Level 2 qualification.

Assessment

You will be assessed throughout the course via:

  • Practical demonstrations
  • Oral questioning
  • Assignment/project work

Future opportunities

Our students have progressed on to courses at a higher level and then found employment within the Army, RAF, Royal Navy, Police, Fire Service, NHS and Prison Service.
