Government and Politics AS level at Walton High
Government and Politics enables students to understand how the UK political systems works, as it provides an insight into the workings of government and Parliament as well as providing the opportunity to understand the different viewpoints held by people involved in decision-making.
Unit 1: People and Politics
This unit introduces students to the key channels of communication between government and the people. Students will study such topics as Democracy, Political Parties, Elections and Pressure Groups.
Unit 2: Governing the UK
This unit introduces students to the major governmental processes within the UK. Students will study such topics as the Constitution, Parliament, the Prime Minister & Cabinet and the Judiciary
8 GCSEs (A*-C) or above, including English Language and Maths.
With a qualification in Government and Politics, you can go onto Higher Education or work in a variety of different fields including journalism, politics, law, the civil service and education. The subject is a useful complement to the study of A level History, Sociology, Law and Philosophy
The course may include visits to both Houses of Parliament, the Supreme Court and to local government offices. In addition, there will be opportunities to hear speakers from political parties, pressure groups and the civil service.
