Engineering - Advanced at Pendleton Sixth Form College

Course description

This course is for students who are interested in a career within the engineering sector. You will gain practical and theoretical skills through studying a variety of subjects such as mechanical principles and applications, fabrication processes and technology properties, as well as gaining an insight into the vast engineering industry. You will have the opportunity to develop your engineering skills, leading up to the design and manafacture of your own engineering project through the application of your skills in mathematics, physics, design and computing.

Course content

You will study a range of units:

  • Delivering principles
  • Delivery of engineering processes safely as a team
  • Engineering product design and manafacture
  • Applied commercial and quality principles in engineering
  • Specialist engineering project

And a range of specialist units, which may include:

  • Calcus to solve engineering problems
  • Further engineering mathematics
  • Computer aided design in engineering

Entry requirements

Advanced - 5cs / 4s at GCSE (including a grade C/5 in mathematics, a grade C/5 in both science and additional science, a grade C/5 in physics or a grade C/5 in 9-1 GSCE science)

Assessment

The course will be assessed through a combination of examinations, externally-assessed tasks and coursework in each year

Financial information

Full time courses are free to 16-18 year olds who are EU citizens

Future opportunities

You can progress on to a HND/D course, onto university to study a degree in areas such as mechanical or manufacturing engineering, civil engineering, product design, motor sport, or marine engineering, or may wish to enter into employment within the engineering sector
