Public Service (Yr1) BTEC 90 Credit Level 3 Diploma at Highbury College

Course description

This programme is designed for young people who wish to enter the uniformed emergency services or armed forces.

Course content

The programme includes a challenging mix of hands-on practical assignments, team work and class-based theory and demonstrations.

You will also benefit from a varied programme of visits and residentials including trips to fire stations, the Royal Navy, C.T.C.R.M Lympstone, the Brecon Beacons and Calshot and more.

There will also be additional visits and work placements throughout the academic year.

Entry requirements

You will need 5 GCSEs at grades A-C, including Maths and English.

Evidence of previous work experience would be useful. A willingness to work in the industry and the ability to succeed are very important.


Assessment will focus on the following:

  • Written assignments
  • Test of knowledge
  • Practical demonstration
  • Task-based controlled assessment
  • Final portfolio presentation.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of the 90-credit Diploma you can progress on to the Year 2 Extended Diploma or go directly into employment in the public services.
