Government and Politics AS and A2 at Cheltenham Bournside School and Sixth Form Centre

Course description

When studying Government and Politics at Cheltenham Bournside Sixth Form Centre there are a multitude of extra-curricular opportunities available to you.  There is a regular trip to the Houses of Parliament and presentations have been given by  MPs Martin Horwood and Alex Chalk, the Speaker of the House of Com-
mons John Bercow, Lord Tyler and various Cheltenham parliamentary candidates in the 2015 election. The Bournside Debating Club can teach you the skills of rhetoric and takes part in national competitions with other schools.  Also in Year 13 there is the opportunity to travel to Berlin and see the history associated with communism in Eastern Europe.

Course content

AS: Government and Politics: People and Politics; Governing the UK.

A2: Introducing Political Idealogies; Other Ideologies.


Examinations and essays.

Future opportunities

Students who have studied Government and Politics have gone on to study:

  • English Literature at Oxford University.
  • History and Politics at Swansea University.
  • Law at  Liverpool University.
