Health and Social Care Level 2 BTEC Extended Certificate at Mid Cheshire College

Course description

Study units including Health and Safety, Nutrition, Communication and Creative Activities.

The course is made up of units covering subjects in:
• Human Lifestyle Development
• Creative & Theraputic Activities
• Vocational Experience
• Communication & Individual Rights
• Individual Needs
• Anatomy and Physiology

These include internal and external assessments.

Course content

This course includes a Study Programme to provide learners with a coherent and enriching curriculum which will provide them with the academic, social and employability skills to progress to further or higher education or employment.

The content of the study programme is designed to broaden the learner experience beyond the main qualification of study.

The key theme of Study Programmes at Level 2 will be the development of occupational skills in a selected vocational area and the development of personal, social and employability skills with a view to raising aspirations.

As well as your core qualification you will study GCSE or Functional Skills English or Maths plus English and maths development as part of the core qualification.

Learners will also undertake personal progress planning and pastoral education. Plus additional personal development activity which may include work experience and projects.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D or above or equivalent. A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)check will be required.


Work experience in a relevant setting is an essential part of the course. Students will complete eight units, which include interpersonal skills, life span development and care needs, the caring environment and diet & nutrition.

Future opportunities

You may be able to progress on to the BTEC Extended Diploma in Health Studies. Alternatively you will be prepared for employment in registered care homes, NHS, community work and the voluntary sector.
