Latin A Level at Hitchin Boys' School

Course description

This course will help you to acquire some understanding of the culture, politics and social life of Rome at significant periods in history, whilst studying elements of the language and literature of the Classical world.

At AS two units are studied: Latin Language (unprepared prose translation); Latin Literature (prescribed texts covering prose and verse). A further two units are studied at A2: Latin verse (prescribed verse text and a passage of unprepared verse); Latin Prose (prescribed prose text and a passage of unprepared prose).

Both unprepared passages are tested by comprehension and translation. Two hours per week will be devoted to the study of the prescribed texts; the rest will be spent on language work. An element of private study is expected. All units are assessed by written examination in both AS and A2. There is no coursework option.
