Textiles AS and A Level at Park House School

Course description

The main purpose for any course in art, craft and design is to develop an ability to appreciate, understand and creatively respond to the visual world around you. The aims of the course are to stimulate, enthuse and encourage students to create a visual and tactile meaning through art by experimenting and creating an imaginative approach through a wide variety of two and three dimensional textile/ fibre media. You will be introduced to a variety of ways of exploring and recording from images, artifacts and resources and develop an understanding of how this is an important part of the investigating and making process. Responses are recorded and presented through practical and critical activities which demonstrate an understanding of different styles, genres and traditions.

The best foundation for success in AS and A Level Textiles is a grade A* – C at GCSE in Art & Design or Textiles. However, this is not always a requirement and staff will consider each applicant at interview with their portfolio of work. AS and A Level Textiles are not easy options and you must be prepared to work hard at developing your abilities.
