Further Mathematics A Level at Northgate High School
Students complete their A Level Mathematics course in Year 12 and embark on their Further Mathematics course after the summer modules in Year 12.
The full further maths A Level course consists of four components (but more can be taken): • Two mandatory pure mathematics components (Pure core 1 & 2). There will also need to be at least two components chosen from: • Statistics including the Poisson Distribution. • One Mechanics module including Projectiles, Energy, Work and Power and Centres of Mass. • One further module on either Statistics or Mechanics.
Subject specific entry requirements: GCSE grade 7 in Mathematics.
Further Mathematics is required for students hoping to study Mathematics at Oxford or Cambridge and is advantageous to those wishing to study Computer Science, Economics or Engineering. Further Mathematics is desirable, but not essential, for a Mathematics degree at any other university.
