Spanish A Level at Bacon's College
In AS/A2-Level Modern Foreign Languages you explore and better understand the contemporary society, cultural background and heritage of one or more of the countries or communities whose language is being studied. It allows students to further develop their linguistic skills as well as their cultural knowledge of the country they study.
It develops your study and communication skills and opens your mind to other cultures. We aim to develop positive attitudes towards the learning of a foreign language learning and to develop understanding of the language in a variety of contexts and genres.
The central aims of Modern Foreign Languages are to develop a better understanding of the chosen language in a variety of contexts and genres and to communicate confidently, clearly and effectively in the foreign language that has been chosen.
MFL students are also taught to understand, discuss and explore concepts and issues relating to language in use and to develop critical insights into, and contact with, the contemporary society, cultural background and heritage of countries or communities where the foreign language is spoken. The course provides a suitable foundation for further study and / or practical use of the foreign language.
AS-Level Leisure and Lifestyle Issues
Unit 1: Oral Exam (Examiner-led discussion of topics)
Unit 2: Listening, Reading and Writing (including translation and grammar work).
A2-Level Environmental, social and political issues
Unit 3: Oral Exam (structured discussion)
Unit 4: Listening, Reading and Writing (including translation and grammar work).
You will need 5 A*-C grades at GCSE, including English Language and Mathematics.You also need to have a minimum of a ‘B’ grade at GCSE in your chosen subject and be interested in the language and the culture of the country you are studying.
You can go to university and further study the language. AS and A2-Level in languages are highly valued by universities for the vast majority of courses. Beyond universities all employers love language skills and look favourably on candidates that have linguistic abilities at AS and A2 level.
For many jobs you need to speak at least one foreign language. It does give you the chance to go and work abroad and use your language skills but also to teach English abroad.
