BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business at Bournville College

Course description

A Level 3 BTEC course is a practical, work-related course.  Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.  Students focus on a particular subject area and develop a range of specialist skills and knowledge.

At the end of the year, it is equivalent to 3 GCE A levels and helps students to enter employment or to progress to a more responsible job if already in employment.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade C or above, two of which MUST be Maths and English Language or Functional Skills Level 2 in Numeracy and Literacy (Level 2 Extended Certificate is equivalent to 2 GCSE’s) or
BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Business (Merit or Distinction) together with a grade C or above in Maths and English or Functional Skills Level 2 in Numeracy and Literacy
All applicants must have a good reference.

For entry on to Year 2

Passed Year 1 with good attendance and punctuality
Any students transferring from other colleges must have GCSE English and Match at Grade C or above or Level 2 Functional Skills in Numeracy and Literacy.


All units are internally assessed and graded by tutors.  An overall grade for the qualification is awarded to all learners who successfully complete all units.  Grades awarded are Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Future opportunities

Students who successfully complete this programme will be able to apply for our Foundation Degree (Level 5) in Business, offered in partnership with University College Birmingham.  Alternatively, you can apply to other universities offering diplomas and degree courses in Business Studies and other related areas.

Business Level 3 BTEC 90-credit Diploma are valued by employers and lead to career opportunities in business specialisms such as Finance, Human Resources, Management or Marketing, As well as other Business related careers.  Learners may also progress within employment to professional qualifications such as those offered by the Chartered Institutes of Marketing, Management Accountants and Personnel Development.
