Sociology A Level at Moor Park High School and Sixth Form

Course description

As with most courses, the AS course
consists of two modules. The first module
will concentrate on the family and
relationships within the family structure,
for example, you will study how the family
has changed, and debate about the
changing roles and relationships within
the family.

In the second module, you will study the
Sociology of Education i.e. how and why
some groups do better than others in
school and college. You will examine
changes to schools, and changes within
the education system. You will then study
Research Methods and how these have
been used to study issues in education
and the wider sociological field.

The A2 course includes a study of beliefs
in society, and how religion and its
purpose have changed over time. The final
unit is on crime and deviance and looks
at why some groups are more likely to
commit offences than others, and the
impact of crimes on society.
