Health and Social Care Level 2 (OCR Cambridge Awarded) at Leeds East Academy

Course description

This is a one year course.

The Level ½ Certificate in Health and Social Care focuses on the health and social care sector and the settings, job roles, principles and values involved.  It measures students’ achievements in a practical way that is relevant to the workplace.

There is one examination and other units are centre-assessed and externally moderated.  All units are graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction levels.  Full award certificates are also graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction levels.

A Pass at level 2 is equivalent to four grade Cs, a Merit is equivalent to four grade Bs, and a Distinction is equivalent to four grade As at GCSE.

As this qualification is about progression into employment students are expected to go on work experience.

From this qualification students often progress to the OCR Level 3 Nationals in Health, Social Care and Early Years.  Last year five students who had achieved a merit in OCR Level 2 gained high grades at Level 3 and most are now at University. It will also provide a basis for progression to other qualifications at College such as Nursery Nursing or working in the care sector.
