Games Design and Interactive Media BTEC Level 2 at Sutton Community Academy

Course description

This course will introduce you to computer programming, providing a progression route onto a more advanced work-related qualification. You will develop your skills in designing, creating and testing your own computer software.

Units may include:

  • Developing computer games
  • Computer graphics
  • Multimedia design
  • Animation techniques
  • Website development
  • Presenting information using IT
  • Interactive media production
  • Computer systems

Entry requirements

Minimum of four GCSEs at grade D or equivalent (including English and maths)
Familiarity with computers and computer terminology would be an advantage.

Assessment

You will be assessed through:

  • Projects
  • Assignments
  • Practical-based coursework

Future opportunities

This course will prepare you for employment and provides a good grounding to progress to a more advanced course. With further training or study you could progress to a career as a trainee programmer, trainee web developer or a role in IT services.

Further information

This is a standalone subject, but you will be expected to resit GCSE Maths and English if needed and ECDL if not already gained in Year 11.
