A Level Design and Technology: Product Design (3D Design) at Townsend CofE School

Course description

COURSE CONTENT
The course has been designed to encourage candidates to take a broad view of technology and design, to develop their capacity to design and make products and to appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing.

LEARNING METHODS AND ASSESSMENT
The AS has two units;
Unit 1 – Materials, components and application.
2 hour written examination paper.
Unit 2 – Learning through designing and making.
Coursework, taking approximately 50 hours. This may take a number of forms: a simple design and make project, two smaller projects or a portfolio of work.

The A2 also has two units;
Unit 3 – Design and manufacture
2 hour written examination paper.
Unit 4 – design and making practice
Coursework, taking approximately 60 hours. Candidates submit evidence of a simple, substantial designing and making activity.

Entry requirements

Six or more GCSE grades at A*-C including English Language.
Average GCSE point score 4.5 or above.
Grade C or above in any Design & Technology option.
