LAMDA - Acting at Chichester High School for Girls
LAMDA is a performance qualification open to pupils whohave studied drama at GCSE orA Level or who haveextensive performance experience. It is a practicalexamination in which acting skills are assessed through threeperformance pieces from different theatre eras and styles.
These are performed to an external examiner from LAMDAwho awards a Pass,Merit or Distinction. UCAS points arealso awarded for each grade. A Grade 8 Distinction is worth65 UCAS points, the equivalent of an A Grade at AS.
Through practical lessons you will learn how to work withyour voice and body to create a character and you willdevelop a greater understanding of realising plays inperformance.
You will explore three different plays either individually or aspart of a duo. For each you will select a three minute sceneto perform in the final examination. You will have to read thewhole play, develop the character and embody the characterwithin the situation within your performance. The differenteras studied are;
•Greek, Jacobean, Shakespearean or Restoration
Each performance is then graded for interpretation andtechnique. You are marked further on knowledge,which isassessed through a discussion with the visiting examiner.
Depending on the grade being taken the knowledgedemands will vary. For example at Grade 8 you will discussthe influence Konstantin Stanislavski has had on theatre, yourwork as well as how you applied elements of the system toprepare your role.
