Level 3 Foundation Tech Level IT Cyber Security at Deanery High School and Sixth Form College

Course description

This qualification has been developed under the guidance of The Tech-Partnership and the British Computer Society who are the sectors primary professional bodies.

This AQA Level 3 qualification will provide a core knowledge and understanding of IT Cyber Security. Focusing on computer networks and either supporting end users to solve computer and network related issues or threats and vulnerabilities, all based on the underpinning fundamental principles of computing and communication technologies.

Course content

We deliver the AQA Level 3 foundation technical level IT in Cyber Security. This subject cover topics such as • how devices communicate, both physical transmission methods and the media they use • designing and developing a simple computer network from a user specification and creating a maintenance plan. Cyber Security: the identification and resolution of a range of threats and vulnerabilities Technical Support: fault investigation, diagnosis and resolution.

Entry requirements

Five or more GCSEs at Grade 4 or better including both Maths and English Language


Unit 1: Fundamental principles of computing - External Examination Unit 2: Communication technologies - External Examination Unit 3 Developing and maintaining computer networks - Internally centre assessed Unit 4: Technical Support:Supporting end users - Internally centre assessed Unit 4 Cyber security: Network threats and vulnerabilities - internally centre assessed

Future opportunities

The Level 3 Technical Level I.T. Cyber Security qualifiacation can lead to highly paid employment in shortage areas such as Security, Intrusion Detection, Network Design and Installation and Cyber Security Technician.  It is the ideal preparation for degrees in I.T. related subjects, Cyber Security, Robotics, Networking, Security and even IT Journalism.

We are one of a very small number of 6th Forms in the North West that offer Technical I.T. courses.  We have been offering Networking and I.T. Support courses for over 15 years and have a track record of success and excellent results.

Cyber Security is one of the fastest growing industries and there is a massive shortage of professionals qualified in this field.  Students studying Technical I.T. Courses often complement them with studying Computer Science, Electronics and Maths.
