Sport & Active Leisure - Level 1 at Dudley College

Course description

The Pearson BTEC Entry Level Award (Entry 3) (QCF) and Pearson BTEC Level 1 Award/Certificate/Diploma (QCF) in Sport and Active Leisure have been developed to give learners the opportunity to:

· engage in learning which is relevant to them and will provide opportunities

to develop a range of sporting skills and techniques, personal skills and

attributes essential for successful performance in working life

· achieve a nationally recognised Entry or Level 1 vocationally related

qualification

· progress to employment in sport and active leisure

· progress to related general and/or vocational qualifications.

Course content

Mandatory units:
• Taking part in sports
• Improving own fitness
• Investigating rights and responsibilities at work
• Risks and hazards in sport and active leisure
• Taking part in exercise and fitness
• How the body works
• Planning a fitness programme
• Assisting in leader of sports and active leisure activities to plan and deliver an activity
• Working in sport and active leisure
• Sport and active leisure group project
• Job opportunities in sport and active leisure.

Functional skills:
• Maths
• English.

There will be an opportunity to take part in a residential, activity days and be part of the Team Sports Programme. There will be additional costs relating to residentials (£150+) and off-site activities.

Entry requirements

You are assessed by a variety of methods including case studies, multiple-choice tests, class-based assignments and time constrained assessments, projects, practicals and presentations. Each unit is graded as a pass.

Financial information

There is no need to worry about the costs of coming to college as there is lots of financial help available. Our finance and welfare officers will be able to talk to you about any help that may be available to you based on your individual circumstances.

Bursary fund

 

Students aged 16-18 attending a full-time further education course can apply to the 16-18 Bursary Fund for help with college related costs. Free BUS PASS

 

We will provide a free bus pass to help with travel costs for 16-18* year olds on full-time programmes, based on individual circumstances**. To qualify for a free bus pass***, you must live more than one mile from the campus at which you will be studying and not already be in receipt of other financial support, such as Care to Learn funding.

 

*Under 19 as at 31 August 2017.

 

**Students with learning difficulties or disabilities who are unable to access public transport may still be able to receive help – talk to our Student Finance team.

 

***Evidence of family income will need to be provided.

Future opportunities

In order to progress on to another course in sport, you must achieve:

  • Sport Active Leisure Diploma BTEC Level 1 at a pass
  • Have achieved functional skills (at the level you are working at) in maths, IT and English
  • Demonstrate excellent attendance – above 90% (college average)
  • Have shown a positive attitude towards your studies throughout the year
  • Have a positive report from your course tutor reflecting an excellent work ethos.

Possible Progression on to:

BTEC Extended Certificate Sport Level 2

NVQ Activity Leadership Level 2.
