A-level Health and Social Care covers areas which are essential to Health and Social Care such as:

  • rights and responsibilities
  • service provision
  • understanding human behaviour

 

This specification gives students a greater awareness of current issues and prepares them for higher education or the world of work.

At AS Students will complete 1 mandatory unit and one optional unit and the same at A2. The mandatory units are as follows;

  • Unit One – Effective Care and Communication
  • Unit Six – Practitioner Roles

 

The optional units students can choose from include;

  • Unit Two – Understanding Health Conditions and Patient Care Pathways
  • Unit Three – Life as a Challenge
  • Unit Four – Educating Children and Young People
  • Unit Five – Learning and Development
  • Unit Seven – Food and Fitness
  • Unit Eight – Using and Understanding Research
  • Unit Nine – Understanding Mental Health Disorders
  • Unit Ten – Diagnosis, Treatment and Preventative Strategies

Assessment

AS: 54% coursework and 46% Written Exam

One coursework portfolio and one written examination.

This qualification is equivalent on ONE GCE A Levels.

Entry Requirement

Students should have achieved give GCSE's grade C or above including English and Maths. It would be desirable to have completed the subject at GCSE however, this is not a pre-requisite.
