Course description

Mathematics leads to almost any choice of higher education or employment. It is regarded as one of the most adaptable and flexible qualifications and is highly valued in the world of work and education.  

Course content

Over the duration of the course a wide range of mathematical disciplines will be studied, including Calculus, Coordinate Geometry, Sequences and Trigonometry. The curriculum is divided into two-thirds pure mathematics and one-third applied mathematics (Statistics and Mechanics).  There has been a considerable increase in the uptake of mathematics degrees in recent years and the wealth of opportunities available to graduates is considerable.   

Entry requirements

Minimum of grade 6 in Maths and grade 4 in English and 3 other A*-C GCSEs.

Assessment

Three exam papers in pure mathematics, mechanics and statistics, all equally weighted.

Future opportunities

There are many other degrees which have a high level of mathematical content, and Advanced Level Maths is a requirement for degrees in Engineering, Physics and Computer Sciences.

You could take this course with other advanced level courses to prepare for higher education in Mathematics, related areas such as Engineering, Economics, Physics or more general higher education courses.

    • Hind Leys College shares campus with Shepshed High School, St Botolphs C of E Primary School, Hind Leys Pre-School, The Oak Treehouse Nursery and Shepshed Toy Library.

      Shepshed Campus is only a short distance off Leicester Road from the A512, off Junction 23 of the M1.  The nearest train station is Loughborough.

      Bus links include Arriva bus nos. 126 and 127,  Paul Winson nos. 4 and 129, connecting Shepshed to Leicester, Loughborough, Coalville and Ashby de la Zouch.  

      Students attending Hind Leys College from the catchment areas and neighbouring villages are bussed to college through the Leicestershire County Council school transport provision.
