Business Studies AS A2 at Weston Favell Academy
At AS level you will study three key areas:Marketing and Financeinvolves investigating how firms use a variety of methods to identify and develop the market for their product or service. Accounting leads with the basic concepts related to raising finance and recording financial information in a business. People and Operationsmanagement. This module investigates the employment process and the role of employers and employees in the work place. Operations management reviews the decision-making of firms External Influences and Objectives & Strategy. Considers how the government and society in general influence business decisions e.g. Taxation, Health & Safety rules etc. At A2 these modules are studied in more depth. How will I study?A range of lesson styles are used which include group work, role plays, business simulations, presentations, written work and case study work. Regular pieces of homework will be set which aim to assess your knowledge and understanding of the work covered as well as your analytical and evaluative skills. It is expected that you will do further reading out of class of both textbooks and newspapers.
Whilst it is not a pre-requisite that you studied this subject at GCSE/GNVQ, if you did you must have passed with at least a C, or GNVQ Merit, to start the AS Level. As with all A Levels you require a minimum of 5 GCSE passes, or equivalent, at C and above.
AS - Unit 1 This unit is assessed in the summer throughtwo compulsory stimulus response questions.Unit 2 and 3These units will be based on a common pre-released case study where a number of compulsory questions will be set. A2 - Unit 4is a decision making case study.Unit 5 is a report and essay.Unit 6is a case study paper with compulsory questions.
No matter when you intend to leave education and start work this course will provide a valuable insight into the world of work. It is ideal for both Marketing and accounting professions.
Business Studies combines a range of skills that compliments both the Maths & Sciences as well as the Arts and Humanities.
