Sociology AS Level/A Level at Barr's Hill School and Community College

Course description

Sociology looks at human social behaviour and how various institutions and agencies affect and change this.  Students study the causes and consequences of key societal problems and acquire a range of different theoretical explanations for the way society functions. 

In Year 1, you will explore: Families and Households and Health. 

In Year 2: Beliefs in Society and Crime and Deviance.

Sociology students will also learn how to utilise a range of important research methods to investigate individuals and society.

Future opportunities

A Level Sociology is a rigorous and demanding subject, accepted by top universities such as Cambridge.  The high level of critical thinking and essay writing involved makes this an excellent preparation for university life.  Many students pursue careers in the law, social policy, social work/administration, teachin and the media.
