Beauty Therapy Diploma - Level 2 at Redcar & Cleveland College

Course description

This course offers an excellent basic beauty therapy qualification covering facials, manicure, pedicure, eye treatments, make-up, waxing and anatomy and physiology.

Course content

The programme of study will require the successful completion of the following 13 units for the full Level 2:

  • Apply make-up
  • Facial skin care
  • Waxing techniques
  • Pedicure treatments
  • Manicure treatments
  • Salon reception duties
  • Create nail art designs
  • Eyelash and brow treatments
  • Client care and communication
  • Health and safety practice in the salon
  • Working in the beauty related industries
  • Promote products and services to clients in a salon
  • Create an image based on a theme within the hair & beauty sector

Entry requirements

4 GCSE A to D grades to include English and Maths or a Level 1 qualification in Beauty Therapy An informal interview is required for each candidate before acceptance to ensure you benefit from and successfully complete the chosen programme of study. Level 2 will suit you if you are new to Beauty Therapy or have some knowledge and basic skills in the industry. You may want to increase your skills or to take on more responsibility to start your first job. You will benefit from practical learning in Mosaic, our commercial Beauty salon, which simulates a real work environment. You may also have the opportunity to undertake additional qualifications, enter competitions and visit a Beauty exhibition.

Assessment

Continuous practical formative assessments are to be performed on other learners. Students are given constructive feedback on their performance to give the opportunity to improve their learning and stretch practical grades from a pass to merit to distinction. Summative assessments are performed on clients in Mosaic salon and these take place throughout the course. Theory knowledge of each subject will involve: workbooks, assignments, projects, group discussion, question & answer and research through self-study. There will be internal online tests for all units. City & Guilds log book of evidence will be produced to show achievement throughout the course.

Future opportunities

Progression from Level 2 Programme is Beauty Therapy Level 3 qualification.

Further information

School leavers who do not achieve grade C or above in Maths or English on leaving school will be offered support at college to work towards this and, wherever possible, to achieve the equivalent qualifications.
