Music AS/A level (AQA) at Abbey Grange Church of England Academy

Course description

AS/A2 Music encourages individual musical development. Students will be able to develop interests in integrated music activities and demonstrate understanding of the connections that exist between aspects of listening, performing, composing and music history, analysis and techniques.

Course content

AS

Component 1: Appraising Music Examination

Students will study Jazz music and music from the Western Classical tradition.

Component 2: Performance

Candidates will perform for a minimum of six minutes. This element of the course will be externally marked.

Component 3: Composition

Two compositions will be required for this element of the course.

A2

Component 1: Appraising Music Examination

Students will study Jazz music, music from the Western Classical tradition and Popular music.

Component 2: Performance

Candidates will perform for a minimum of 10 minutes

Component 3: Composition

Two compositions will be required for this element of the course.

Entry requirements

All students applying for Advanced level courses at Abbey Grange C of E Academy should meet the following entry requirements. To study 4 subjects a student should have at least 7 GCSEs at grade C or above, with a minimum of grade B or above in their chosen subjects. To study 3 subjects a student should have at least 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, with a grade B or above in their chosen subjects.
