Mathematics at Colonel Frank Seeley School
AS Level Mathematics
In Year 12 students are taught three modules all of which are examined in June. In Core 1 and Core 2 they study a range of topics including algebra and functions; co ordinate geometry; sequences and series; trigonometry; exponentials and logarithms; differentiation and integration. In Mechanics 1 they are taught about the kinematics, dynamics and statistics of a particle as well as looking at vectors and moments.
A Level Mathematics
In the second year of this course students sit a further three modules which again are all examined in June. The first module is Statistics 1 and the topics studied include probability, correlation and regression; discrete random variables, discrete distributions and the normal distribution. The other two modules are Core 3 and Core 4. These modules are an extension of the core modules studied in Year 12 allowing students to consider them in more depth.
To study mathematics you need to achieve at least a Grade B at GCSE. It is advisable that some pupils complete extra work before starting the course.
