Make Up Artistry, Level 3 VTCT Diploma at Abingdon and Witney College

Course description

This qualification will provide learners with a comprehensive understanding of make-up artistry and its place within the Creative Industries sector. This course will be the first step in your career in this exciting and creatively stimulating industry.

Course content

This programme has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills to an advanced level through a variety of techniques in the following units: media, fashion, photographic, special effects, camouflage make-up, Mehndi skin decoration, creation and application of prosthetics and facial postiche. In addition, there will be opportunities to study Creative Hairdressing Skills, Bridal Hair Styling and Airbrush Make-up. This is a practically based course and you will receive ongoing assessment on your practical skills. There will be theory sessions which underpin the practical knowledge. In addition to your study programme, you will be required to undertake work experience within the Make-Up industry and keep a portfolio of photographic evidence. You will be required to purchase a make-up artist kit, which will include everything you need to start your career in the industry. A good quality camera to capture your work. A uniform will be required so that you are presenting a professional image at all times and a course text book will be invaluable for home study. During your year of study the will also be opportunities to participate in workshops, trips and exhibitions.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at C or above, one of which must be in English, or Level 2 Diploma in Hair or Beauty qualification.

The fees shown below are those charged in 2015/16 and may be subject to increase for 2016/17. For some courses clothing, equipment and registration fees may apply and will be payable to external companies. Only trips necessary to the successful completion of your course (compulsory trips) will be listed below, other trips and visits may be offered as part of your programme of study, these will be optional and fees will be collected throughout the duration of the course.

Future opportunities

Students can progress into in employment or decide to further their studies by progressing on to Higher Education.
