BTEC First Business Studies Level 2 (Extended Certificate) at The Bulmershe School

Course description

The BTEC Firsts in Business have been developed in the business sector to:

•provide education and training for business employees

•give opportunities for business employees to achieve a nationally recognised Level 2 vocationally specific qualification

•give full-time learners the opportunity to enter employment in the business sector or to progress to vocational qualifications such as the Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Nationals in Business

•give learners the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.

This is a one -ear course and is taken with other Level 2 subjects.

Entry requirements

To study a full-time Level 2 BTEC First Extended Certificate course you will require 200 points from your GCSEs (mainly D and E grades). You will be able to retake Maths and/or English on a special one-year course. Level 2 courses are suitable for students who need to boost their GCSE grades before they go to full-time employment or proceed to a Level 3 course.


All units are assessed through written portfolios of work which are internally assessed. To be awarded a pass candidates have to meet all the pass criteria, to be awarded a merit they have to meet the entire pass and merit criteria and to be awarded a distinction they have to meet all pass, merit and distinction criteria.

Future opportunities

The course could lead to training schemes in office administration, financial services, sales and retailing.
