History A-Level at Deanery High School and Sixth Form College

Course description

The modern history course is designed to offer students the opportunity to study a range of topics and periods in breadth and depth and to develop expertise in Key Skills. Students will be able to build upon some of the work covered at GCSE whilst other aspects of the course will provide opportunities to explore new areas of history.

Course content

We follow the OCR specification.


AS level students study 2 units of work:

Unit 1- Foreign and Imperial Policies 1856-1914
Unit 2- Democracy and Dictatorship in Germany 1933-1963 A2

At A2 level, students study an additional two units of work :

Unit 3- Russian Revolutions 1894-1924
Unit 4 Civil Rights in the USA 1865-1992

Entry requirements

B in GCSE History (if studied) plus B in English Language

The study of History leads to many different careers in Business, Journalism, Law, Media and Politics. A well respected qualification, History leaves every door open, but closes none
