Fashion and Textiles A Level at Bridgwater College

Course description

This course is for those wishing to follow an art-based approach to Fashion, Textiles and Design, concentrating on experimentation with a diverse range of specialist techniques and processes. You will need to have a skill and passion for creativity and be prepared to use drawing and recording of primary research as a starting point for designs. It is essential that you are highly motivated to consistently work on your projects, it is not recommended that you study this subject with more than one other art related subject.

  • Printmaking
  • Surface pattern
  • Drawing
  • Knitting
  • Weaving
  • Felt making
  • Dyeing
  • Hand and machine stitching
  • Pattern cutting
  • Garment construction

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs in the A* – C range, including Maths and English at grade C or above.

A sample of your creative work will need to be seen at interview.


Your work on the programme is assessed by a range of methods, which includes projects, assignments, case studies, coursework, essays, and presentations throughout the two years. A final exhibition is assessed by an external examiner.

Financial information

A materials fee is collected at enrolment and additional costs for residential trips, such as our New York residential need to be paid.
