Art and Design: 3D Design GCE A Level at Oriel High School
The AS 3D course will enable you to build and develop on the creative skills that you learnt at GCSE. You will have the opportunity to learn new clay and construction techniques and have the freedom to experiment with and develop your own ideas.
Studying an art course helps you to learn how to make sense of the visual world around you, how to think creatively and how to communicate your ideas to others, as well as giving you the confidence to express yourself to a range of audiences.
Many students go on to study an Art Foundation course or 3D related degree course at University.
You will have eight timetabled lessons a fortnight and one extra life drawing session in the autumn term. Our expectation will be that you spend a minimum of one hour per lesson working independently on your Art projects.
Students aiming for high grades should be prepared to devote much more time to their work.
In each year students will produce:
»» Component 1 - Personal Investigation (coursework) 50% Designed from personal
starting points, you will submit supporting studies and your personal outcomes.
»» Component 2 – Externally set Assignment (exam) 50% Externally set by the board in term 2, 10 hours controlled assessment plus submission of preparatory studies.
»» In addition A Level students submit a Personal Study for the Personal Investigation
We would prefer that students have achieved a C grade or above in an Art and Design
If you have not studied Art at GCSE you will be required to complete a mini art project so that we can assess your skill level before joining the course.
How will I be assessed?
Your work for will be marked using four assessment objectives.
AO1 Develop AO2 Refine AO3 Record AO4 Present
